Saudi Arabia Intercepts Dozens of Drones and Missiles Targeting Key Infrastructure

Amid the escalating regional war in the Middle East, Saudi airspace witnessed a severe bombardment on March 9, 2026. Qatari state-funded network Al Jazeera and Iraqi news outlet One Iraq, which frequently covers Axis of Resistance activities, broadcast a continuous stream of urgent announcements from the Saudi Ministry of Defense detailing the interception of dozens of hostile projectiles.

A primary focus of the aerial assault was the Kingdom's critical energy infrastructure. According to Al Jazeera, the Saudi Defense Ministry intercepted and destroyed 9 drones in the Empty Quarter that "were heading to the Shaybah oil field." Additional reports from One Iraq and Al Jazeera confirmed the destruction of multiple subsequent drone waves targeting the same facility. The Eastern Province, another vital oil-producing region, faced heavy bombardment; the Ministry reported the destruction of 18 drones in a single wave, alongside several smaller clusters of incoming drones.
