Ukraine introduces 'SIRENA': A new maritime drone for hunting Russian fighter jets
As part of Ukraine's technological efforts on the maritime front, it was reported today, June 19, 2026, on the development of a new trimaran-type unmanned surface vessel called "SIRENA." This vessel, developed by the "Center of Innovative Technologies Program," is designed for complex defense and aerial missions.
According to Times of Ukraine, which is characterized by a distinct pro-Ukrainian stance, the drone possesses unique capabilities including the destruction of Russian aircraft and the interception of "Shahed" UAVs. According to a report in Реальна Війна, which highlights aspects of the war in Russia, the SIRENA is equipped with a powerful electronic warfare (EW) system capable of simultaneously jamming enemy communications, GNSS navigation, and UAV control channels.
Technical data published by БДСН and UA Stream indicate impressive performance of the system:
- Speed: Up to 90 km/h.
- Payload: Carrying capacity of up to 300 kg.
- Operational time: Continuous operation of up to 24 hours.
- Range: Maritime defense and reconnaissance capability up to a distance of 800 km.
The new development constitutes another layer in Kyiv's asymmetric warfare strategy against the Russian Air Force, combining operational versatility with an extended maritime range.
