Day of mourning in Nikopol following a deadly Russian drone attack

The city of Nikopol declared today, June 17, 2026, a day of mourning following the deaths of three civilians as a result of a Russian UAV attack. According to reports on the Дніпро Оперативний channel, this was a targeted attack where a Russian drone paused to assess the situation before striking a group of pedestrians. Among the identified victims: Oleksandra Kisela, 87, and her son Oleg, 51, who worked as a janitor at a kindergarten and leaves behind two daughters. According to the Telegram channel, this is another "war crime" by the Russian military.

Information about the attack was also confirmed by the Труха⚡️Дніпро channel, which reports based on data from the Regional Military Administration (OVA) that it was a "targeted attack" by an FPV drone that struck civilians while they were walking on the street. Both channels are identified as local news agencies reporting from a distinctly pro-Ukrainian line, highlighting the harm to the civilian population as part of the military campaign.

In addition to the tragic event, regional authorities reported further UAV attacks during the night preceding June 17. According to the ДніпроОДА announcement, these attacks were directed at the district center, as well as the Myrivska and Pokrovska communities. Although there was damage to regional infrastructure, reports by Суспільне Дніпро noted that there were no casualties in these nighttime strikes.
