[85078] Armenia deepens security cooperation with NATO in joint military exercise
Armenia will hold a multinational military exercise this week with the participation of the U.S., France, and Greece, against the backdrop of its growing distancing from Russian-led security alliances.
Armenia tightens military ties with the West in the "Eagle Partner 2026" exercise
From June 17-25, Armenia will host an international military exercise titled "Eagle Partner 2026." According to a report by Цензор.НЕТ, the goal of the exercise is to train forces for peacekeeping missions, with 250 soldiers from the Armenian Peacekeeping Brigade taking an active part.
Alongside local forces, delegations from NATO member states will join the maneuvers. Цензор.НЕТ notes that this includes 58 military personnel from the U.S. (from U.S. Army Europe and Africa and the Kansas National Guard), 24 soldiers from France, and 11 representatives from Greece. The report on UA Stream confirms the details of the event and highlights the involvement of the three alliance countries in the exercise.
Experts are following the shift in Yerevan's foreign and security policy with interest. According to Цензор.НЕТ, whose reporting line tends to support Ukraine and Western policy, "Armenia has recently been reducing its participation in Russian-led security structures, particularly in the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), and strengthening cooperation with Western countries."
It should be noted that this is another step increasing tension with Moscow. As reported by Цензор.НЕТ, similar exercises held last year already drew sharp criticism from the Kremlin, which views Armenia's rapprochement with the West as a deviation from their historic alliance.
