During June 15, 2026, several Ukrainian Telegram channels reported a Russian attack that led to a direct hit on the territory of the Kharkiv Zoo, located in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The mayor, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed that cages were damaged at the site and that there were animals injured as a result of the shelling.
According to Лачен пише, known for its distinct pro-Ukrainian stance, it was a direct hit that was well-documented. The report was verified by Times of Ukraine, who noted that it was an "injury to animals" as a result of the attack. Other entities such as Реальна Війна and ҐРУНТ reiterated Terekhov's report regarding the damage to the zoo's infrastructure and the injury to the animals housed there.
The Суспільне Харків channel reported that municipal authorities are still collecting details on the exact extent of the damage. At the same time, channels with a distinct military orientation, such as ЗСУ ДВІЖ, strongly condemned the incident and referred to it as part of the ongoing Russian aggression.
