Massive Russian attack on Kyiv: Dead and wounded in the heart of the capital
On the night between June 1 and June 2, 2026, Kyiv experienced one of the most severe combined attacks in recent times, involving the use of missiles and UAVs. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that as of 06:20, the number of casualties had risen to 51 people. Subsequently, additional sources, including the official channel of the Kyiv City Administration (KMDA) and the operational channel of the AFU, updated that the number of casualties had reached 65, with unfortunately four dead reported and three children among the wounded.
The attack struck eight different districts in the city, with significant destruction caused to civil infrastructure. According to Times of Ukraine, a multi-story building in the Podilskyi district sustained a direct hit that led to the collapse of parts of the building, with concerns for human lives under the rubble also reported by Channel 24. In the Holosiivskyi district, sources reported significant destruction of a polyclinic building, while a fire was documented at a gas station in the Darnytskyi district.
Sources identified with Ukrainian media, such as Real War Ukraine and Censor.NET (which take a distinctly pro-Ukrainian stance and emphasize Russian terror), stressed that the attack was deliberately aimed at civilians and population centers. Reports included documentation of fires in multi-story residential buildings in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
Additional damages were documented in educational institutions, including kindergartens, and public service buildings. The Ukrainian Ministry of Health noted that five medical institutions were damaged during the operation. City authorities, via the KMDA channel, clarified that rescue forces continue to operate in the field, while the attack was also accompanied by disruptions to the power supply in parts of the city.
