Unusual wave of aerial attacks in the Odessa region

During the night of May 16, 2026, the Odessa district, and in particular the cities of Izmail and Reni, experienced a massive wave of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, multiple groups of UAVs were directed toward Izmail and Tatarbunary, and the public was called to stay in shelters immediately.

Reports from local Telegram channels, including Одесса INFO and Новости Одесса, described the arrival of dozens of UAVs one after another. Новости Одесса reported about 26 aircraft that were on their way to the region, with further reports later received regarding waves of 9 to 14 additional aircraft each time. Кореспондент Одеси confirmed that a "series of explosions was heard" in the area of the city of Izmail.

Local defense officials, including Новости Одесса, noted that "air defense systems are operating" against the threat. Local channels, identified with the Ukrainian front line, made sure to update residents in real-time regarding the flight paths of the aircraft. After hours of tension, the Новости Одесса channel announced in the morning the "cancellation of the alert" in the region.

Alongside the war reports, an unusual item was recorded in Кореспондент Одеси about a fox spotted near the coastline in Odessa, with authorities warning residents that it is a wild animal that may carry dangerous diseases.
