In an unusual incident that occurred on May 13 in the Belgorod Oblast of Russia, an electric train derailed after a Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped an aerial bomb onto the railway track. The channel Лачен пише, which is identified with positions critical of Russia and Putin, reported that it was a FAB-500 bomb that was launched during an operational flight and did not explode upon impact with the track.
The reports were verified and detailed by additional channels. According to 🔊⚠️єРадар | Повітряна тривога | Ракетна небезпека, the incident occurred in the Yakovlevsky District. The channel emphasized that the exact cause of the train derailment was an "avia-bomb, which the Russian military dropped."
The event joins a series of technical and operational failures of the Russian military. The channel UA Stream, which reports from a Ukrainian perspective, notes that according to data from the media outlet "Astra", "since the beginning of 2026, the Russian military has accidentally dropped at least 24 aerial bombs on regions in Russia and occupied territories in Ukraine."
Despite the structural damage to the track, no explosion of the bomb itself was reported, which could have led to a much heavier disaster considering it is a powerful FAB-500 type bomb.
