Water and infrastructure crisis in major Ukrainian cities

On May 12, the city of Vinnytsia experienced severe disruptions to its water supply. According to reports from Суспільне via the Лачен пише and Times of Ukraine channels, the operation of the main pumping station was halted due to a power supply failure, which led to an almost complete cutoff of water in the city. ТСН новини added that the situation was exacerbated by a burst in a main transmission pipe that led to localized flooding.

According to a later update from Новини.LIVE, the water system began to refill after the station was reactivated. Water authorities clarified that this was a "technical malfunction" rather than Russian shelling, noting that the system had become sensitive due to a switch to alternative power sources for pre-planned maintenance work.

At the same time, other cities reported planned disruptions to water and transport infrastructure:

• Lviv: Львівич | Новини reported planned water outages on May 13 in certain neighborhoods due to the connection of a new water line, along with traffic blocks on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street for network repairs, as also confirmed by Суспільне Львів.


• Odesa: The channel Новости Одесса published a detailed list of streets where traffic disruptions are expected due to planned repair work on urban infrastructure.
