Clarifications regarding the involvement of senior Ukrainian officials in corruption investigations

During May 12, 2026, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, the NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau) and the SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office), issued official clarifications regarding the involvement of senior state officials in pending criminal investigations. According to Times of Ukraine and TSN.ua, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), Rustem Umerov, was questioned within the framework of criminal proceedings related to military procurement and defense equipment, and currently holds the "status of a witness."

At the same time, the authorities addressed the status of President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to a report by XY Kyiv +, the director of the NABU, Krivonos, emphasized that the President "is not an object of investigation." Additional channels such as Suspilne News and Novinach confirmed that there are no criminal proceedings in which the President is defined as a suspect or a person under investigation.

Legal sources and commentators, including Oleksandr Notevskyi, explained that the legal status of the President is protected under the presidential immunity enshrined in the constitution, and that the only possibility for prosecution during his term of office is through an impeachment procedure.
