An assassination plot against a high-ranking officer in the Ukrainian Navy was thwarted

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on May 8 the arrest of a Russian agent in Odesa, who planned to assassinate a high-ranking officer in the Ukrainian Navy. According to reports in ЦАПЛІЄНКО_UKRAINE FIGHTS, the goal of the operation was to carry out a high-profile attack on "Victory Day" on May 9 in order to create a favorable propaganda backdrop for the Kremlin.

According to Ukraine NOW, the suspect is a convicted felon from the Donetsk region who was recruited by Russian security services after searching for "easy jobs" on Telegram channels. The suspect followed the officer, rented an apartment near his place of residence, and prepared an ambush in which he planned to shoot him using an AK-74 assault rifle as the officer exited the courtyard in his vehicle.

A report by ҐРУНТ noted that the operation was thwarted thanks to the vigilance of Ukrainian intelligence, and during the searches, weapons, ammunition, and a mobile phone used for coordination with his Russian handler were seized.
