Media outlets and Telegram channels in Ukraine are reporting a medical emergency in the capital Kyiv, following a severe shortage of medication for treating animal bites. According to reports by Times of Ukraine, which is known for its distinctly pro-Ukrainian stance, stocks of the immunoglobulin drug remain in only 3 hospitals throughout the city.
The information channels Киевский Движ and Труха⚡️Київ note that the danger of rabies in the capital is on a seasonal upward trend, which makes the shortage of treatment early and particularly dangerous. The channels cited the media outlet "TSN" as the primary source for the news, which warns that this is a "rabies danger spreading in the capital".
At the same time, the UA Stream channel expands and states that this is a "critical shortage of anti-rabies medication", which is used in cases of severe and life-threatening bites. According to the channel, the situation has reached a breaking point where the availability of the drug is limited to only three medical institutions at the beginning of May.
The reports call on the public to exercise extreme caution following the situation, as medical officials warn of the dangerous combination of the shortage of equipment and the increase in the risk of seasonal morbidity.
