Reports in Ukrainian media about the resignation of the head of the Kyiv Military Administration have been strongly denied by the authorities and by Tkachenko himself.
Political storm surrounding the head of the KMVA
During May 5, 2026, a wave of reports swept through Ukrainian media and Telegram, led by Новини.LIVE, claiming that the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), Tymur Tkachenko, had submitted his resignation. According to the reports, which were also echoed in Труха⚡️Київ and Левый Берег Киев, a search had already begun for candidates to replace him in the position to which he was appointed on December 31, 2024.
However, official sources were quick to refute the information. The KMVA press office released an official statement asking the public "not to spread unverified information and to rely solely on official sources." The Укрінформ news agency confirmed that no resignation request had been filed by Tkachenko.
Tkachenko himself responded sharply to the rumors, calling them "zero connection to reality." In a post also published in Київ | Times, he claimed that "some political groups have a significant budget for sponsored content and commissioned articles." Tkachenko called on the local political system to stop engaging in gossip and focus on "urgent issues," such as preparations for the upcoming heating season and prioritizing infrastructure projects in the city.
Among the channels that reported the news, there were significant disagreements. Channels with a critical sentiment toward the government, such as Березовый сок, linked the reports of his departure to frustration with working alongside "showmen and corrupt officials." Conversely, other sources that had rushed to report the resignation were forced to publish "correction" updates after the information was refuted by Tkachenko's office.
