Abysmal conditions in the Drahomanov University shelter in Kyiv

A wave of angry reactions was sparked by documentation circulated on social media regarding the state of the shelter in Dormitory No. 2 of the National Pedagogical Drahomanov University in Kyiv. According to the Telegram channel Лачен пише, the place is in "terrible conditions" intended for students and refugees (internally displaced persons), including severe dampness, filth, and a lack of basic preparation for the safety of those staying there.

The reports highlight serious safety failures. According to Лачен пише, alongside the dirt and safety hazards, new glass was found at the site that was supposed to be used to repair the windows instead of the OSB boards currently installed, which indicates ongoing neglect in maintenance.

The issue was covered extensively by several other Ukrainian media channels. The channel Мій Київ | Світло presented similar documentation of the shelter, while echoing the criticism of the harsh conditions. The channel UA Stream also described the place as "unfit for long-term human habitation."

The website Фокус, which tends to report on domestic Ukrainian issues from a positive and state-aligned position, also documented the environmental and safety hazards in the shelter. So far, the university administration has not issued an official response to the difficult findings circulated by the students and internet users.
