Significant departure in the Ukrainian market: SuperStep chain closes its operations
The retail sector in Ukraine is taking another hit, with a dramatic announcement regarding the exit of the well-known Turkish footwear chain SuperStep from the local market. According to a report by the channel Всевидящее ОКО: Україна, the company confirmed that it will close all of its physical stores by the end of this coming June. The CEO of Eren Retail, the parent company, confirmed the move, which significantly reduces the variety of brands available to consumers in the country.
The chain, known for marketing major international brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Lacoste, and New Balance, has begun an accelerated withdrawal process. The channel UA Stream noted that the chain "has decided to completely reduce its offline presence in Ukraine." According to UA Stream, the total closure process will take place during the months of May and June.
As of now, the exact reasons for the decision to have the chain leave have not been officially detailed by the management of Eren Retail, but the move signals a challenging trend for foreign retailers operating in the Ukrainian market during the current period.
