On July 2, 2026, Ukrainian security officials reported an unusual and continuous wave of jet-powered drones penetrating the country's airspace. The Ukrainian Air Force (the official body responsible for sky defense) provided continuous updates throughout the day on vehicles moving towards Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and other regions, with some crossing the border from Russia and Belarus.
According to reports from the Air Force, a significant concentration of drones was identified on complex flight paths towards the capital Kyiv, including in the area of the Kyiv Reservoir and the Pryluky and Slavutych regions. Another source, the monitor Telegram channel, confirmed the penetration of the jet vehicles from Bryansk towards the Chernihiv region, a description also supported by the eRadar channel, which reports on alerts and aerial activity in real time.
At the same time, the Air Force reported drone activity in southern and central Ukraine as well, including in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Poltava, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The ZSU DVIG channel (which takes a distinctly pro-Ukrainian stance) emphasized that this involves the use of new "jet" vehicles, which pose a significant tactical threat to air defense systems.
The situation on the ground remains tense, with reports indicating "reconnaissance" (complementary reconnaissance) in certain areas following the waves of attacks, while in other areas, the identification of hostile targets continues. As of the last update, air defense forces are prepared to intercept the vehicles in various sectors, while citizens are called upon to obey the guidelines of the home front command.
