Turkish MP from the İYİ party falls victim to a massive fraud under false pretenses

According to reports from several Turkish media outlets, İYİ Party MP Burhanettin Kocamaz has fallen victim to a sophisticated fraud scheme. According to Son Dakika Haberler Gündem, the suspects called Kocamaz and posed as security forces personnel, claiming that "his name was involved in an investigation into the FETÖ terrorist organization."

The scammers managed to convince the MP to hand over large sums of money and valuable property. The İHA news agency details that the stolen loot includes approximately 2,375,000 Turkish liras, about 10 kilograms of gold, $68,000, and 1,900 euros.

According to a report by the gdh channel, the Turkish police in Ankara launched an intensive investigation that led to the location of two suspects for the act in the city of Istanbul. Both were arrested, and the court ordered them to be remanded in custody.

The case has caused a stir in Turkey due to the large sums stolen and the fact that a senior elected official fell into the trap of a common social engineering technique that exploits public fear of involvement in cases related to the FETÖ organization.
