Heavy traffic congestion on Turkey's roads as Eid al-Adha holiday ends
With the conclusion of the Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı) holiday, masses of vacationers have begun making their way back to their homes, leading to heavy traffic congestion on major routes in Turkey. According to reports, TGRT HABER note that "the holiday has ended, the return journey has begun," as experts issue urgent warnings to the driving public regarding safe driving on the roads.
The congestion is clearly felt in the Sakarya region, where, according to Sondakika Haber Gündem, heavy traffic began on the "Anatolia Motorway" (Anadolu Otoyolu) as a result of the return of those who spent the holiday in their hometowns or at vacation resorts.
At the same time, Haber Gündem report that in the Bolu region, on the TEM and D-100 highways, "kilometer-long queues" of vehicles formed as early as the early morning hours. According to the channel, traffic sometimes came to a "complete standstill," a situation documented in aerial footage distributed on social networks.
