The public discourse in Turkey is turbulent regarding the issue of street dogs, as a sharp debate is taking place on social media between supporters of animal welfare and critics of the current management policies.

The user kutluinsanogluH (known for his criticism of current policy) raised a controversial claim, wondering in this post: "If dogs were animals from which meat or milk could be produced, would their presence on the streets be defended with the same intensity?" The same account also claimed that while children in the country live below the poverty line, dogs are "celebrating every day," and claimed he is being subjected to censorship for his publications.
