The Russian healthcare system is expanding its services and now includes remote monitoring for chronic patients within the state health insurance framework.
Digital revolution in public health in Russia
The healthcare system in Russia is updating service conditions for residents with chronic illnesses. According to a report by the РИА Новости channel (known for its distinctly pro-government stance), remote monitoring services for diabetes patients and those suffering from hypertension have been officially included in the state health insurance system (OMS).
According to the chairman of the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (FOMS), Ilya Balanin, as reported on the Москва 24 channel, the move will allow doctors to "receive data on the patient's condition remotely and monitor the dynamics of the indicators without regular visits to the hospital." According to Москва 24, a central goal of the initiative is "to notice deterioration in condition in time and prevent complications."
As part of a wider government investment, about 5 billion rubles have been allocated for the purchase of continuous blood glucose monitoring systems. According to Москва 24, the dedicated equipment will be distributed primarily to children, adolescents, and pregnant women, a step intended to ensure constant and accurate control over the health of these sensitive populations.
