[69526] Sergey Lavrov: Russia is refraining from using its full military might in Ukraine for 'humanitarian' reasons
The Russian Foreign Minister stated that his country is not deploying its full military strength in Ukraine to avoid damage to the population, a claim that sparked mixed reactions and sharp criticism on social media.
Lavrov's statements on the course of the war in Ukraine
Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stated in an interview with the "Shanghai Media Group" that Russia is choosing not to use all the means at its disposal in the special military operation zone. According to him, the reason for this is the desire to avoid "causing excessive damage to territories," since, according to the minister, "by and large, our people live there" whom the authorities in Kyiv are trying to suppress, as reported in Sputnik.
Lavrov's statements were widely circulated on various Russian Telegram channels, including Раньше всех. Ну почти. and Komsomolskaya Pravda. At the same time, the channel Vremya.UA noted that the Foreign Minister emphasized that Russia has gained control over about 80 settlements over the past year, while maintaining its position that it is "always open to negotiations."
On the other hand, these statements were met with sharp criticism on channels presenting an anti-war stance, such as Zone AP. These users and sources attacked Lavrov's words, pointing to the total destruction in cities like Bakhmut and Avdiivka as proof that Russia is using heavy firepower. Users claimed that this is "empty propaganda" that does not align with the reality on the ground, where entire settlements are being destroyed by airstrikes.
Meanwhile, the Orange East channel linked Lavrov's words to reports from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) regarding Russian use of weapons containing depleted uranium in the Chernihiv region, which highlights the large gap between Moscow's official narrative and reports from the Ukrainian side.
