A series of explosions were heard in the Ryazan region of Russia tonight, following a drone attack aimed at a strategic oil refinery. Ukraine confirmed that this was an operation by its forces.

Tonight (May 15, 2026), a series of powerful explosions were reported over the city of Ryazan, Russia, as a result of a large-scale drone attack. According to SHOT, which is known for coverage aligned with Russian positions, residents reported 8 to 10 consecutive explosions around 02:00 AM, followed by fires and heavy smoke in one of the city's districts.
ZN.UA, a Ukrainian channel reporting in line with Kyiv's war effort, confirmed that this was a successful attack by the "Defense Forces of Ukraine" on the local refinery in Ryazan. According to the report, this is a strategic facility owned by the "Rosneft" corporation, which accounts for about 5% of Russia's total refining capacity and provides jet and automotive fuel for central regions of the country.
Russian channels such as Supernova+ published dozens of recordings of what they defined as the "moment of the attack," using language that indicates astonishment and criticism toward air defense systems that failed to prevent the strike. At the same time, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that 5 drones were intercepted in the capital's region, and reports of anti-aircraft activity also came from the cities of Taganrog and Yeysk.
As of this time, no official information has been released by the Russian authorities regarding casualties, but the extent of the infrastructure damage to the refinery remains at the center of the reports. The attack comes at the peak of an intensive wave of aerial combat that struck Russia's interior regions during the night.
