A registered group of hikers got into distress at the foot of Mount Krusenstern in southern Sakhalin, after one of the group members felt unwell and lost consciousness. According to a report by the SHOT channel, which is known for its tendency to cover criminal and news events in the region, the hikers followed the procedures and contacted the emergency services immediately upon the hiker's condition deteriorating.

Following the call, a Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations was scrambled to the scene. The description of the event noted that according to SHOT, "the woman was evacuated to the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport and handed over to medical teams." Six crew members from the Ministry of Emergency Situations took part in the rescue operation.
