A nightly drone attack wave in Ukraine and Russia
Tonight (May 5, 2026) was marked by extensive military activity. The Air Force of Ukraine reported waves of drones that penetrated from the Black Sea towards the Odesa region. Local monitoring channels, including Одесса INFO, updated throughout the night on explosions and anti-drone activity in the areas of Sanzheyka, Hrybivka, Kurortne, and Akkerman. The monitoring channel Одесса INFO called on residents to enter shelters as air raid sirens were announced.
In the Kyiv region, the channel Kyiv Dvizh reported drone threats in the Troieshchyna and Brovary areas, and even noted that explosions were heard in the Vyshhorod area. Conversely, on Russian networks, the news agency TASS reported that the governor of the Leningrad region updated on the downing of 16 drones, while the channel Petersburg Diary cited a much higher number, noting that "289 Ukrainian drones were downed during the night over Russian regions."
Parallel to the military reports, Russian Telegram channels identified with pro-government stances, such as Operation Z: War Correspondents of the Russian Spring, continue to conduct campaigns for donations and equipment for the fighting. Meanwhile, the logistics channel Lokhmatyy Z, which holds a distinct anti-Ukrainian stance, published a review including claims of forced mobilization in Odesa and humanitarian fraud, alongside reports of criminal incidents in the Izmail area.
Authorities in various locations in Russia, including the Voronezh, Oryol, and Orenburg regions, declared states of alert overnight against drone attacks, as appeared in updates from the channel Lpr 1 and other local channels.
