The court in the Altai region ruled: A father who abandoned his son will not receive compensation

A court in Russia's Altai region recently ruled that the father of a soldier who fell in battle (during the special military operation) is not entitled to receive the government financial grant. According to a report by the Readovka channel, known for its pro-Russian government and military stance, the father left the family when his son was only seven years old and had ceased all meaningful contact with him since then.

During the legal proceedings, the father tried to claim that he maintained some contact and even noted that he paid child support and gave his son a phone as a gift. However, the prosecution succeeded in proving that the man "removed himself from the son's upbringing" and played a zero role in his life, while the mother bore the burden of raising him alone, as reported in Readovka.

The Telegram channel Инцидент Барнаул reported that the regional prosecutor's office filed the lawsuit on behalf of the mother to ensure the funds would be transferred to her in full. The Shipunovsky District Court accepted the prosecution's arguments, and the appellate court upheld the decision, thereby denying the father eligibility for compensation defined as "sums intended for the mother who raised the fallen fighter," as noted in Инцидент Барнаул.
