The IDF cleared for publication this morning (June 19, 2026) the news of the fall of Lt. Col. Dor Ben Simhon, a battalion commander in the 401st Brigade, during battles in southern Lebanon. Ben Simhon, a highly regarded armored corps officer who was married and a father of two daughters, fell while leading his fighters on the combat front.
According to the report in Moment News - Army and Security on Telegram, which is associated with positions supporting the IDF and the state's security, Ben Simhon entered his position only about two months ago, after his predecessor was wounded in battle. IDF sources noted that he "stepped under the stretcher during complex moments of fighting and acted until his final day out of a deep sense of mission."
In Political-Security Cabinet - Moriah Asraf & Doron Kadosh, who present a national-security position, they shared words that Ben Simhon wrote to his soldiers on the last Memorial Day, shortly after he took up his position. In his letter, Ben Simhon noted: "With a tremendous sense of mission, I am joining a long-standing legacy", and added that after communing with the fallen, "we will return to our missions, united and lethal, determined to defeat our enemies for the sake of the security of Israel's residents."
Ben Simhon, a member of a family of fighters, leaves behind a legacy of professional command and determination. His fall marks another loss for the IDF forces operating on the northern front since the outbreak of the war.
