[85293] Legal Counsel has ruled: Minister Ben-Gvir is not permitted to delay police data
Legal Counsel against Minister Ben-Gvir's policy
The Government's Legal Counsel has published a principled decision stating that the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, is not permitted to delay or prevent the publication of police data, as reported by War Room 🎗️.
The decision comes following the Minister's attempt to implement a new procedure, according to which every request for information under the Freedom of Information Act would be forwarded for his personal approval. According to a report in Zirat HaHadashot (relying on a report by Reshet Bet), the Legal Counsel has determined unequivocally that this directive "does not stand up legally".
The move by the Attorney General effectively cancels the policy the Minister attempted to institute, which was intended to grant him tighter control over information released to the public by the Israel Police. As of now, no official response has been issued by the Minister's office regarding the decision.
