[83961] Political drama: Justice Elron calls to halt the appointment of Michael Rabello as State Comptroller
Retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron has joined the petitions against the appointment of Michael Rabello as State Comptroller, alleging illegality in the Knesset vote.
A dramatic development in the appointment of the State Comptroller
Upheaval in the political and legal system: Retired Supreme Court Justice, Yosef Elron, filed an official response today (June 15, 2026) to the petitions submitted to the High Court of Justice against the appointment of Michael Rabello to the position of State Comptroller. According to the report by Amit Segal, Elron claims that the second vote held in the Knesset building was illegal, and therefore he is requesting that the court issue an interim injunction to freeze Rabello's entry into the position.
In a brief response submitted to the court, Elron noted: "The respondent Elron joins the petitioners' arguments insofar as they relate to the illegality of the second vote, which was held in the Knesset building. Likewise, the respondent Elron joins the request for the granting of the remedies detailed in the petitions, including the interim injunction to freeze the entry of Respondent 4 (Michael Rabello) into the position of State Comptroller." Similar reports were also published on Hadashot Mehashetach as well as in Cheder Milchama.
It is worth noting that according to Amit Segal, it appears that Elron chooses to distance himself from other allegations raised against Rabello, specifically the conflict of interest claim raised by Knesset member Naama Lazimi through attorney Dafna Holtz-Lechner. Elron's focus remains, for now, on the parliamentary procedure of the vote.
Avishai Grinzaig, known for in-depth legal coverage, emphasized that this is a significant development that raises a question mark around the legality of the election process. Political Arena and Zirat News also followed the reports, which highlight the retired justice's demand to freeze the appointment until a final decision is reached on the petitions.
