Dramatic Development in Contacts Between Tehran and Washington

According to reports from Refael Hayun - Field Security, Iran is on the verge of signing a "Memorandum of Understanding" with the United States, intended to bring about the immediate end of the war and military operations in various flashpoints, including Lebanon. Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, stated that the text of the memorandum has been completed and that the official signing will take place this coming Friday in Switzerland. According to him, the agreement includes the end of the American naval blockade on Iran.

Inside Iran, the move is accompanied by internal turmoil. As reported in Abu Saleh The Arab Desk – a channel that presents a critical stance toward the regime in Tehran – protests are growing among extremist regime supporters, who see the agreement as a blow to Iranian ideology. Protesters in Tehran chanted against Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, labeling reports of the agreement as "fake" or as a surrender to the enemy.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian tried to calm the spirits and emphasized that the negotiations are being conducted under the instructions of the Supreme Leader and the Supreme National Security Council. According to him, as quoted in Refael Hayun - Field Security, "The country's strategic decisions must be made within the framework of legal mechanisms."

Official sources in Iran claim that the memorandum does not stem from trust in the American side, but from military achievements and the resilience of the people. However, the unrest in the streets of Tehran indicates a deep rift between the political echelon seeking sanctions relief and the ideological base of the regime, which opposes any compromise with the US.
