Tightening the AUKUS Partnership: New Naval Technology on the Way

As part of the AUKUS defense alliance, the United States, Britain, and Australia have announced a strategic initiative to develop underwater drones by the year 2027. NTD News Hebrew reports that the announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during a meeting of the countries' defense ministers held in Singapore.

According to the report on NTD Hebrew, the goal of the flagship project is to provide "a range of multi-mission payloads with high flexibility, designed to support underwater operations and maintain our collective advantage in the maritime domain." The project is expected to enhance diverse capabilities, ranging from reconnaissance and surveillance to anti-submarine warfare and mine countermeasures.

Massive Investments in Military Infrastructure

The plan is accompanied by significant investments: Australia plans to invest approximately $3.5 billion USD in the HMAS Stirling naval base, as well as $20.7 billion in upgrading two local shipyards to support submarine construction. At the same time, the U.S. Navy is beginning to flow personnel into Australia as part of an attempt to act "as quickly as possible" to strengthen its presence in the Pacific Ocean.

The AUKUS alliance, established in 2021, continues to be a pillar in the West's confrontation with China's growing influence in the region.
