Gantz against politicization in the IDF: "Keep politics out of the army"

Minister Benny Gantz addressed the uproar surrounding the Patch Messiah affair today (May 14, 2026), and called on the political echelon to refrain from interfering in professional decisions within the IDF.

In a report published on the channel Political-Security Cabinet - Moriah Asraf & Doron Kadosh, which presents a critical position toward Hamas and a positive position toward Israel and the US, Gantz was quoted warning against outside influences on the military system: "I suggest all hitchhikers keep politics out of the IDF and not interfere in command decisions".

Similar comments were brought on the News Arena channel, where Gantz sharpened his words and added a sharp reservation against calls for insubordination: "Do not interfere with orders and command decisions and certainly do not call for insubordination".

Gantz's comments come against the backdrop of growing tension surrounding command authorities in the IDF and the attempts by political figures to interfere in the operational and organizational decisions of the army.
