This past weekend, a new enforcement policy of the Israeli government against figures operating against the state on social media made headlines. Kol HaHadashot on 🆃🅴🅻🅴🅶🆁🅰️🅼🔴, a channel that presents a line supporting the government and Minister Chikli, reported that Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli ordered to prevent the entry of American YouTuber Tyler Oliveira into Israel. Oliveira, who arrived at Ben Gurion Airport, was denied entry after questioning due to his history of publishing content described as "antisemitic" and calling Jewish communities "invaders."
Minister Chikli stated on Kol HaHadashot on 🆃🅴🅻🅴🅶🆁🅰️🅼🔴 that "the party is over. Whoever comes here with the goal of sowing hatred will return empty-handed." According to him, this is the implementation of a new policy that will prevent activity in Israel by anyone who spreads antisemitic content or supports BDS.
Simultaneously, the channel Daniel Amram Without Censorship – a channel identified with a critical approach toward public figures and politicians – reported an opposite case of an Israeli causing outrage online. Ido Sluki, a YouTuber from Nahariya and a veteran of an engineering unit in the IDF, went viral after being filmed trolling soldiers and shouting "Free Palestine" at them. According to the channel, Sluki has recently started collaborating with campaigns for "Free Palestine," which has sparked sharp criticism from the Israeli public, with videos starring him garnering millions of views worldwide.
While these reports deal with two different cases, the connecting thread between them is the battle over the Israeli narrative in the digital space, whether by distancing foreign figures from physical borders or through sharp public criticism of Israeli citizens using their platforms to promote an agenda that opposes state policy during wartime.
