[55855] Political assessments: Attorney Rabello’s candidacy for State Comptroller in danger due to secret ballot
Political assessment: Netanyahu’s difficulty in appointing a State Comptroller
According to reports on the Amir Ettinger & Yuval Segev channel, the candidacy of Benjamin Netanyahu’s private lawyer, Rabello, for the position of State Comptroller is in real danger. Commentators estimate that due to the fact that this is a secret ballot, Netanyahu is expected to encounter difficulties in getting the appointment passed.
According to the channel, which is identified with close political coverage, sources in the coalition may thwart the appointment: "There are enough MKs who truly support Elron, add those in Likud who always want to embarrass Netanyahu and MKs who are angry at him, etc., add some of the ultra-Orthodox who want to take revenge on Netanyahu for the conscription law." According to Amir Ettinger & Yuval Segev, the conclusion is that "if he had fielded another candidate and not his private lawyer, maybe it would have been different."
At the same time, in the political arena, voices are being heard questioning the integrity of the election procedures within the Knesset. On the Politics Updates channel, MK Avichai Boaron was quoted in an interview with 'Kol Berama', expressing distrust in the acting CEO of the Election Committee, Dean Livneh. Boaron claimed that Livneh is a "leftist" and added: "I don't trust him to maintain the integrity of the elections. I assume he has connections in the extreme left wings - and perhaps his heart will lean toward that same social environment whose goal will be to win at any cost in the elections."
