Complex rescue in the Arava: Parachutist electrocuted and stuck at height

An unusual incident occurred today in the Arava, when a paraglider got stuck on high-voltage power lines during a skydive. As reported on News from the Field on Telegram, the incident required the immediate intervention of the Israel Electric Corporation to cut the power supply in the area and prevent a fatal electrocution.

Fire and rescue forces from the Sapir and Dimona stations, with the assistance of a rescue unit and the Central Arava Regional Council, operated under complex conditions. According to Voice of the News, the rescuers identified the parachutist hanging between the cables along with his parachute at a height of about 5 meters. The rescue teams used an aerial work platform to bring the trapped man down safely.

The medical condition of the injured man, aged about 30, is defined as "moderate to serious" according to reports from Hot News and News from the Field on Telegram. After initial treatment in the field, he was evacuated by Magen David Adom (MDA) helicopter to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba while conscious.

In a further report from Without Censorship, it was noted that the rescue itself was carried out using heavy equipment including a bulldozer and a crane, to ensure the lowering of the parachutist from the pole without risking further exposure to electrical current.
