Opposition leader Yair Lapid's remarks at the Herzliya Conference, according to which Haredi politicians are indifferent to the deaths of IDF soldiers, sparked a storm and criticism from coalition supporters.
Sharp confrontation over Yair Lapid's remarks regarding the Haredim
During the Herzliya Conference held today, July 1, 2026, opposition leader Yair Lapid made harsh remarks against Haredi politicians. Lapid claimed that "The Haredi politicians tell us they don't care that our children are dying. They are not moved when the radio says 'permitted for publication.' All that matters to them is that we transfer them a lot of money."
The remarks, which were widely reported by Michael Shemesh and on Channel 12 Corner 99, were also disseminated on the Political Arena channel, and triggered a wave of angry reactions in the political system.
On the other hand, Yinon Magal, who is identified with right-wing positions supporting Netanyahu, lashed out at Lapid and called his words "bloodshed." Magal accused Lapid, along with Bennett, Liberman, and mainstream media outlets, of conducting a deliberate incitement campaign against the Haredi public, and argued that it is a case of political hypocrisy.
