North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has announced a broad strategic plan to turn the North Korean navy into a force with nuclear capabilities. As reported by IRNA News Agency, the statement was made during a launch ceremony for a new 5,000-ton destroyer at the port of Nampo.

According to the 'Akharin Khabar' channel, which is affiliated with the media establishment in Iran, Kim noted that "the navy is becoming a full branch of the armed forces equipped with strategic weapons." He emphasized that this plan is advancing precisely according to the pre-set schedule. The 'Fars News' channel, which serves as a mouthpiece for the Revolutionary Guards, added that this is a move that will change the country's maritime security perception.

As part of efforts to enhance maritime power, which is often perceived as the weakest branch of the North Korean military, Kim ordered an ambitious development plan. According to IRNA reports, the leader ordered the construction of two large destroyers annually over the next five years, alongside the development of giant 10,000-ton destroyers. The 'Khabar Fouri Jang' channel emphasized that these moves are intended to bring the navy's combat capability to an "admirable level beyond imagination."
