At the conclusion of an intense 18-hour round of talks in Switzerland, mediators Qatar and Pakistan announced that significant agreements had been reached between Iran and the United States. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted on X (as reported by Iran International) that the contacts led to "major progress" including an exemption for the oil and petrochemical sectors from sanctions, the release of frozen assets, and the initiation of an economic development plan for Iran. Araghchi added that the "first real test" of these results will be the functioning of the conflict prevention mechanism in Lebanon.

The talks did not pass without tension. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, claimed on Vahid Online that the Iranian delegation temporarily suspended direct talks after "threatening comments" were published by the US, and the continuation of the negotiations was conducted through indirect mediation by Qatar and Pakistan. Iranian sources affiliated with the regime, such as SNN.ir and تبریز خبرلری, emphasized that Iran is conditioning the transition to the final stage of negotiations on the practical implementation of US commitments.

At the same time, Iran International reported from American sources that the US delegation, led by Vice President J.D. Vance and with the participation of Jared Kushner, emphasized the need to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, an issue regarding which it was agreed to establish a direct communication line to prevent misunderstandings. Technical talks to continue implementing the agreements are expected to continue in Switzerland until the end of the week.
