Tehran Mayor, Alireza Zakani, revealed on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the details of the funeral plan for the former leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei. According to a report by Vahid Online, Zakani stated that contrary to previous assessments, the farewell ceremonies will include passage through major cities in the country and will also be held as an official ceremony inside Iraq.

According to the published schedule, after two days of farewell ceremonies, Khamenei's body will be transported to Tehran on July 15, moved to Qom on July 16, and will arrive in Iraq on July 17 for the purpose of holding ceremonies there. Iran International, a media outlet identified with a critical stance toward the Iranian regime, emphasized that this announcement constitutes a direct contradiction to previous statements by the secretariat of the committee responsible for the funeral, which claimed that "there is no plan to hold ceremonies outside the country's borders."

In a parallel report by Afghanistan International, it was noted that the endpoint of the planned procession will be in the city of Mashhad, Khamenei's birthplace, where the leader will be interred on July 18.

Official sources in Iran have not yet issued an official response confirming or refuting the contradiction between the Tehran Mayor's statements and the previous assurances of the organizing headquarters, which previously declared that "all preparations are being made only within the country's borders" (according to Iran International).
