[87555] The Education System in Iran: Transition to Online Exams in Several Provinces
Changes to the Exam Format in Schools in Iran
According to recent reports from June 17, 2026, several provinces in Iran are announcing changes to the format of non-final high school exams. The Telegram channel یِ دانش آموز, which focuses on student affairs, notes that the non-final exams for 11th-grade students in Kermanshah province will be held online. Regarding Fars province, the report clarifies that autonomy has been granted to school administrations to decide whether to hold the exams in-person or online.
In parallel, another report from the same channel confirms that in East Azerbaijan province, it was also decided to transition to remote learning and exams for 11th and 12th-grade students. The اخبار سازمان سنجش و استخدامی channel, which focuses on publications by the Ministry of Education and Evaluation, expands that "the assessment of 11th-grade students in non-final subjects, as well as in internal subjects (excluding final exams) of 12th grade, will be determined online by the subject teacher and under the responsibility of the school principal and the teachers' council."
The official guidelines as published by educational authorities in East Azerbaijan emphasize the need for coordination with local education offices so that the assessments are completed and entered into the systems by July 11, 2026 (20/4/1405). It appears that the general trend points toward the delegation of management authority to the various provinces, with each province adopting an independent policy regarding the method of conducting exams in the coming period.
