[87410] G7 Summit: Broad Support for the Emerging Agreement Between the US and Iran
Significant Development in US-Iran Relations: The G7 Summit and the Status of the Agreement
During the G7 summit held in France, the leaders of the seven industrialized nations declared their support for the agreement emerging between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Vahid Online and DW Persian, the leaders defined the move as a "historic opportunity" to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and to limit its biased and regional activities. In the G7 statement, it was emphasized that maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a "cornerstone of global trade."
At the same time, President Donald Trump described the agreement as a "very powerful deal" and expressed satisfaction with the response of the financial markets, as reported by Iran International. On the other hand, there are conflicting reports on the ground; DW Persian cited American officials claiming that despite the discussions, the Revolutionary Guards continue to launch UAVs toward tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which requires the US military to intercept them.
Sources identified with the regime in Tehran, such as the IRNA News Agency and Khorasan Online, presented the agreement as an achievement of "steadfastness and active resistance strategy," while citing Israeli commentators who express concern and define the move as a "humiliating failure" for the Netanyahu government, due to its lack of involvement in shaping the agreement.
In the international arena, the move also affects the Ukrainian front. As reported by DW Persian and Afghanistan International, G7 leaders intend to increase sanctions on Russia and provide additional military aid to Kyiv, out of an assessment that reducing tension with Iran will allow the West to concentrate more resources and economic pressure against Moscow.
