Diplomatic tension: Iran freezes talks with the US

Following Israeli Air Force strikes on targets in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and head of the negotiating team, announced that the continuation of the dialogue process with Washington is no longer possible. Ghalibaf accused the US administration of giving a "green light" to Israel and claimed that the US is not demonstrating the will or ability to fulfill its commitments in the talks, while characterizing the American conduct as a "good cop, bad cop" game that is no longer relevant according to a report in Iran International.

These statements come on a day when, according to reports in DW Persian, an agreement of understandings between Tehran and Washington was supposed to be signed, a move also reported by President Donald Trump. Mohammad Marandi, a media figure close to the Iranian negotiating team, confirmed in a post on X that "there are currently no further negotiations taking place" according to this source.

On the other hand, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Ghalibaf's remarks and called them "lies as usual," while emphasizing that Israel cannot reconcile with fire directed at its territory. According to the ministry's statement, Hezbollah is responsible for the breach of calm and the continuation of the fighting even after declarations of a ceasefire.

At the same time, sources identified with the Revolutionary Guards and internal Iranian media outlets such as Khabarfori and IRNA cited Ghalibaf emphasizing that "no part of the Axis of Resistance can be left alone" and promising that Iranian diplomacy will ensure Lebanon's sovereignty, using the slogan "Bacharkh ta bacharkhim" (Rotate until we rotate/retaliate).
