[66976] Beyond Remote Learning: Provinces in Iran Change Exam Format
Changes to End-of-Year Exam Format in the Iranian Education System
On May 19, 2026, it was reported that Fars and Alborz provinces in Iran made the decision to switch to an online (non-in-person) exam format for school students. According to Khabar-e Fori-e Jang-e Iran, the decision in Fars province was made in coordination with members of the provincial security council, taking into account the "worry and concerns of families." A similar move was adopted in Alborz province, where it was noted that the local council ordered the exams to be held virtually (according to Khabar-e Fori-e Jang-e Iran).
The Iranian Ministry of Education clarified the general policy on the subject, as published by Akharin Khabar. According to the head of the Center for Assessment and Quality of Education, it was decided to delegate authority to the security councils in the various provinces, which will determine whether exams for grades 7-10 will be held in-person or remotely starting June 9. Regarding elementary schools, it was noted that student assessment will be carried out as in previous years, with 6th-grade exams being in a formative format.
IRNA News Agency emphasized that although the Ministry of Education's priority is to hold exams in a hozouri (in-person) manner, the final option is subject to the approval of provincial security councils. The decision applies to all provinces, with Fars and Alborz provinces having already officially announced the transition to remote exams.
These reports were widely disseminated in various Telegram channels such as Ye Danesh-Amoz and Khabari Plus, which highlight the change in procedures as part of the authorities' dealing with the changing needs in the various provinces.
