Renovation work on the pitch at Takhti Stadium in Tehran has been delayed again, preventing its opening for Premier League football matches until next year.
Takhti Stadium out of the rotation for the upcoming season
According to reports in Esteghlal Fans Channel, the upcoming football season will not include Takhti Stadium in Tehran as one of the host venues. The Director of the Tehran Sports and Youth Department, Habib Sotoudeh-Nejad, clarified that the pitch replacement works, which were supposed to start as early as last March, have been delayed due to "war conditions," as quoted in the Esteghlal Fans Channel.
The updated plan, as published in Akharin Khabar Varzeshi, states that the tender process for the pitch replacement will begin next week. However, the sowing schedule places the start of the work in September or October. According to Sotoudeh-Nejad, "If we start sowing the grass in September, it will be practically impossible to hold matches for nine months."
Due to this technical limitation, the stadium is expected to remain closed throughout the entire upcoming season. In accordance with what was published in the Esteghlal Fans Channel, authorities anticipate that the stadium will be fit for hosting Premier League matches only starting next year. This is another blow to Tehran's sports infrastructure, which has been waiting for a long time for the renovation of the central field.
