On Sunday, May 10, 2026, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a security incident in which a cargo ship was struck approximately 23 nautical miles (about 37-43 km) northeast of Doha. According to reports, the ship was hit by an "unidentified projectile" (according to DW Persian), which caused a small fire that was reportedly extinguished quickly without casualties or environmental damage.

While Western and international sources focused on the general identity of the vessel as a "bulk carrier," the Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed assertively that the ship sails under the United States flag and belongs to the country. This claim was also repeated in other local Telegram channels such as آخرین خبر.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the incident, and the Qatari Ministry of Defense confirmed that the ship was attacked by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) within the country's territorial waters. Al Arabiya Persian quoted Doha's official statement, which defines the event as a "flagrant violation of freedom of navigation" and contrary to international law.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of regional tensions and high-level security coordination, one day after the meeting in Miami between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in which the importance of the partnership between the countries for "deterring threats and strengthening stability in the Middle East" was emphasized (Vahid Online).
