Reports of a series of explosions in the Hormozgan region

During the night between May 5 and 6, 2026, numerous reports were received of loud explosions heard in the area of Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, and other areas in Iran's Hormozgan province. The reports, which came from many users on social media, point to two main waves of events during the night.

According to the opposition channel Iran International, which reports from a critical perspective on the Iranian regime, echoes of explosions were heard around 01:30 at night and another wave around 04:00 in the morning. Additional reports from Iran International noted that some residents reported noises heard from the direction of Larak Island.

The Telegram channel Vahid Online, which serves as a platform for direct reports from the field by citizens, confirmed the intensity of the events. According to Vahid Online, residents reported on the morning of May 5 about "three explosions" and that "house windows shook" as a result of the intensity. Reports from users described the noises as similar to "wartime bombs."

In an earlier report, Vahid Online noted that around 01:30, loud echoes were heard and even described by some sources as the sounds of a "fighter jet." One user even claimed that a "missile was intercepted and fell into the sea," a claim that did not receive official confirmation from security officials or Iranian authorities.

As of this hour, authorities in Iran have not yet published an official explanation for the cause of the explosions or the nature of the events that rocked the vital region near the Persian Gulf.
