Terror attack in the heart of Damascus

On July 2, 2026, a powerful explosion occurred at a cafe in the Al-Hijaz neighborhood of Damascus, near the Palace of Justice. According to reports coming from official sources in Syria and international news agencies, it was an explosive device that had been planted at the scene.

The Syrian Ministry of Health updated that the death toll stands at at least five killed and 16 wounded, with some in serious condition. Iran International, which is identified with a critical stance toward the Iranian and Syrian regimes, reported that security and rescue forces established a security cordon around the attack site, which serves as a central employment hub for lawyers.

Afghanistan International news agency noted that according to official assessments, an attacker entered the cafe, planted the device under a table, and fled the scene. Simultaneously, media outlets affiliated with the Axis of Resistance, including the Telegram channel of the Revolutionary Guards, reported on the incident extensively while using information from the official Syrian news agency (SANA).

In addition to the incident in Damascus, many media networks, including the official channel of 'Akharin Khabar', disseminated reports about hearing explosion sounds in the city of Erbil in northern Iraq, although as of now no further details have been published regarding the nature of the incident in Iraq or a possible connection between it and the events in Damascus.
