[58955] Historic drone attack in Ukraine, strikes in Russia and Trump summit in China
Historic Russian drone attack on Ukraine
Russia launched one of the most massive aerial attacks since the beginning of the war on May 13, 2026. President Zelenskyy noted that about 800 'Shahed' drones were launched toward Ukraine, alongside the threat of ballistic missile launches from strategic bombers.
- Western Ukraine and a diplomatic incident: In an unprecedented move, the city of Uzhhorod in the Transcarpathia region, near the European border, was attacked, where critical infrastructure was damaged. In a historic response, the Hungarian government led by Péter Magyar summoned the Russian ambassador for a reprimand. In addition, Moldova reported a drone penetration into its airspace.
- Notable hit locations: In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 8 people were killed and 11 were injured, including a 9-month-old baby who was seriously wounded in Kryvyi Rih. Further attacks struck residential buildings and the Security Service (SBU) headquarters in the city of Lutsk, and caused casualties and fires in Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, and Poltava.
- Attacks on American corporations: An investigation reveals that Russia is intentionally attacking assets of American companies in Ukraine (such as Cargill), while the Trump administration avoids condemning the events.
Ukrainian strikes inside Russia and front updates
Ukraine responded with its own wave of attacks against Russian energy infrastructure. Hundreds of drones were directed at the Krasnodar region, causing massive fires and damage to port facilities in Taman and Anapa, and also hit an industrial facility in Yaroslavl. Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted 286 drones.
At the same time, the Ukrainian army reported the elimination of 1,130 Russian soldiers in the last day. Against the backdrop of technological warfare, the US Department of Defense confirmed that military instructors from the US were sent to Ukraine to train and prepare soldiers in the field of drones.
International and diplomatic arena
- Trump's visit to China: US President Donald Trump arrived for a visit to Beijing with the aim of exerting pressure on trade and support for Russia. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accompanied him, despite his past Chinese sanctions, thanks to a change in the registration of his name in Chinese. Rubio caused a media stir when he wore a 'Nike' tracksuit – a move seen as mockery of the arrest of Nicolás Maduro.
- The economic cost of the war: The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha, stated that the war is costing Ukraine about $450 million per day, and emphasized that peace in 2026 will be achieved only through active American involvement.
- Putin's plans: Reports indicate that Russia plans to demand Kyiv and Odesa after the completion of the conquest of the Donbas.
Internal news in Ukraine
- Economy and society: The McDonald's chain launched an apple pie that sparked much nostalgia, and is simultaneously conducting advanced negotiations (with the help of Howard Graham Buffett) for a return to operations in the city of Kharkiv.
- Law and crime: Tense hearings continue regarding the former head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, at the High Anti-Corruption Court. Several incidents were recorded in Kyiv, including the finding of an explosive device in a trash can and shooting during a brawl in Obolon.
- Recruitment and treason: Unusual steps were recorded in Chernivtsi, where 50 construction workers were recruited directly from construction sites with the help of rescue forces. Likewise, a military deserter was arrested in Kharkiv who established a network for selling satellite internet (Starlink) to Russian forces.
