[95029] Progress in talks between Iran and the US in Switzerland: Roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days
Delegations from Iran and the US concluded an intensive round of talks in Switzerland, reaching an agreement on a roadmap for implementing understandings and lifting sanctions within two months.
Accelerated diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington in Switzerland
An intensive round of approximately 18 hours of talks between delegations from Iran and the US concluded in Switzerland, with declarations of progress toward a final agreement. According to Al-Mayadeen Channel, which is close to the axis identified with Iran, the parties agreed on a "roadmap toward a final agreement within 60 days," which will be managed under the political supervision of a high-level committee.
The principle of "Commitment for Commitment"
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, emphasized in a report by Al Jazeera that Tehran's working basis remains "commitment for commitment." Iran clarified that continued negotiations and the implementation of the clauses of the memorandum of understanding, particularly clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11, are a necessary condition for any further progress. Meanwhile, Tasnim Agency noted that the Iranian delegation focused on the implementation of "Clause 13" of the memorandum, which includes ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Economic relief and international oversight
A report by Al-Araby TV noted that during the talks, Washington provided documents confirming the "lifting of sanctions on oil and petrochemicals for 60 days." In addition, it was reported that Iran agreed to invite international inspectors to visit the country, a step described as "very important" by Fance, as published on Al Jazeera.
Reactions in the international arena
The Swiss Foreign Ministry issued an official statement, quoted by several media channels, stating that the government in Bern "welcomes the structured progress" achieved in the talks and continues to be at the parties' disposal as a supporting actor in the diplomatic process. On the other hand, channels identified with the Iranian axis and resistance in Lebanon, such as Rased Al-Ado, took care to emphasize that the continuation of the process is conditional upon the execution of the American side's commitments, while implying that failure to implement the clauses could lead to an Iranian withdrawal from the agreements.
