Dramatic changes in the Iraqi administration: New appointments approved in Parliament
On May 14, 2026, the Iraqi Parliament approved by an absolute majority, and in some cases unanimously, an extensive round of cabinet appointments. According to reports from Iraqi News Agency (INA) and Al-Sabah Iraqi Newspaper, the appointment of Abdul Karim Abtan as Minister of Education and Mustafa Nizar Juma as Minister of Trade was approved.
At the same time, the Ultra Iraq channel reported on an expanded list of appointments approved in the same session, including:
- Wahab Salman Mohammed – Minister of Transport.
- Falah Al-Sari – Minister of Finance (an appointment approved unanimously, as also noted by Al-Fallujah Channel - Breaking).
- Fuad Hussein – Minister of Foreign Affairs.
- Mustafa Sanad – Minister of Communications.
The Iraqi education system officially welcomed the entry of Abtan into the position. In an official statement published by the Iraqi Ministry of Education, the ministry expressed its hope that the new minister would work to "fulfill his national and educational mission" and "serve the educational process." Similar congratulations were posted on the Neymar Ibn Al-Anbar channel, which is identified with covering current events and local politics.
The reports on the appointments received wide distribution in the local media, with media outlets such as Baghdad Today News Agency highlighting the sweeping support among members of parliament during the votes. As of this time, no significant opposition to the new appointments within the plenary hall has been reported.
