Reports of military activity in Iran: Explosions and drone interception
During the morning of May 6, 2026, several media channels reported a series of explosion sounds heard in the Qeshm Island area, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik in the early morning hours. Iranian Television stated, citing officials in Hormozgan Province, that the echoes of the explosions heard were due to "an engagement with unmanned aerial vehicles," and emphasized that "no damage was caused" as a result of the incident.
Al-Qahera News Agency reported, relying on Reuters reports, that it was a "confrontation with unmanned aerial vehicles" and noted that the activity did not lead to significant explosions or loss of life and property. This version was also reinforced by channels identified with the Axis of Resistance, such as the Nabatieh Channel, which reported that the incident was caused by "an encounter between small aircraft and unmanned reconnaissance aircraft," and again emphasized that no impact occurred.
On the other hand, the channel Rased Al-Ado, a channel identified with positions critical of Israel and the US, noted that concurrently with reports of the explosions in the Qeshm area, "the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked the headquarters of the 'Komala' company in the Kurdistan region using an unmanned aerial vehicle." The channel emphasized that residents in the coastal areas of Iran reported the explosions around 04:00 AM, and added that this is an incident that took place a few hours after similar reports in the Biban area.
As of this hour, there is no further official confirmation regarding the identity of the drones involved or the circumstances of the unusual incident in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and the official Iranian narrative remains coordinated around denying the possibility of significant damage.
